No I.D. & Kanye West Set To Produce Common’s New Album In 2009

No I.D. took time to chime in about Common (Sense’s )Demo Tape, and also mention that he and Kanye West will be producing Common’s album coming in 2009. Although Universal Mind Control hasn’t even dropped yet, this adds much anticipation to Common’s future project as G.O.O.D. Music will be in full effect again. Kanye West & No I.D. were recently working on Jay-Z’s next and last Def Jam release, Blueprint 3, and although Kanye was mostly unavailable, due to the tour, to produce for Common on this album, The Neptunes had to step in for production.

The world is still waiting to hear how they plan on following up 2007’s Finding Forever & 2005’s Be. No I.D., who Kanye calls his mentor, produced much of Common Sense’s classic Resurrection, and last produced for Common on One Day It’ll Make Sense. Universal Mind Control drops on December 9th. Expect to see Lonnie in the fourth Terminator movie with Christian Bale and play the Green Lantern in The Justice League movie.

Common Gives His Highly Anticipated New Album A Release Date

Invincible Summer is the eight album by rapper Common expected to be released in July, 2008. Roughly one year after releasing one of his most commercially successful and critically acclaimed albums, Common is ready for a change of direction. The Chicago native has his eyes on a mid-July release for his eighth album, which is entitled Invincible Summer, the new CD has been described as an “electro-tinged” and “techno-inspired” sound.

While Kanye West and the late J. Dilla have provided production for both Finding Forever and 2005’s Be, Common says both the need for a fresh sound and a lack of access to West led to the change in direction. The Neptunes and longtime Outkast contributor Mr. DJ provide all of the backing beats to Invincible Summer.

Cee-Lo, Santogold and Chester French, who have recently signed to The Neptunes’ Star Trak label, are all featured on the upcoming work. Invincible Summer could signal a return to the sound Common adopted for his 2002 release Electric Circus. The album also featured production by The Neptunes, and its experimentation with Rock and Electronica drew mixed reactions from fans and critics.

Confirmed Tracks:
Universal Mind Control
Announcement
Make my Day
Punch Drunk Love
Gladiator
Changes
Sex for Sugar
What a World

Kanye West, Common, Method Man & Redman All Sued Over Jazz Samples

Rappers Kanye West, Method Man, Redman, Common and their record companies were sued on Thursday by late U.S. jazz musician Joe Farrell’s daughter, who accused them of using her father’s music without approval. The lawsuit, filed by Kathleen Firrantello in the U.S. District Court in New York, names the rappers along with various labels owned by Universal Music Group.

None of the record companies or representatives for the rappers were immediately available for comment. The lawsuit said all the rappers used portions of Farrell’s 1974 musical composition “Upon This Rock” in three separate songs, West in “Gone,” Common in “Chi-City” and Method Man and Redman in their song “Run 4 Cover.”

Common Announces New Album “Invincible Summer” Due Out July

There must be something to this acting thing for Common. Ever since the Chicago rapper started devoting more time to Tinseltown, he also suddenly shifted to frenetic work pace with his music. Com is set to deliver yet another album this summer, titled Invincible Summer. The album comes on the heals of his last project, Finding Forever, which spawned the Grammy-nominated collaboration “Southside” featuring Kanye West. Invincible Summer, however, won’t feature production from West, who had become a musical muse to Common.

The two Windy City residents reunited on Com’s BE and Finding Forever. Common gave ‘Ye credit for inspiring him again, but on the new album he decided to go a different route. Mainly because West was busy on his Glow in the Dark tour, Common said he couldn’t get much studio time with the producer. So he instead hooked up with the Neptunes and one-time OutKast contributor Mr. DJ. The result is a more electro-tinged sound reports say, Cee-Lo, Chester French, and Santogold are expected to appear on Invincible Summer. The album is tentatively due in July.

Preliminary Tracklisting:
“Universal Mind Control (U.M.C.)”
“Make My Day” feat. Cee-Lo
“Punch Love”
“What A World” feat. Chester French
“Changes”
“Party Shit”
“Dreaming”
“Runaway” feat. Santogold
