Big L [R.I.P.] – Put It On (J1K Remix)

Rest In Peace Big L (May 30, 1974 – February 15, 1999)

With the 16th year anniversary of the passing of hip hop great, Big L last week, Maryland based producer J1K (captain of Producers United), commemorates the legendary lyricist’s passing with a redux of one of his best known tracks, “Put It On.” The influential website Earmilk described this remix as “a mellow, more pleasant way to experience the original for digesting Big L’s lyricism.”

Having harnessed over 16k followers and 1 million cumulative plays on soundcloud, the young DMV producer’s following is constantly on the rise and a name you need to look out for in 2015. dFresh – Universal Laws: Chapter 1 (Album)

Last December, Delaware native dFresh had set out on journey. A pursuit to put his ideologies based on the Laws of the Universe into one concrete piece of material. In short the Laws of the Universe state that what you put into this world, as far as thinking, is what you will get out of it in return. But to fully fund an EP independently can be expensive, so utilizing kickstarter dFresh had fully raised the necessary funds to create this body of work.

“Universal Laws: Chapter 1″ is the first Installment in a 3-tier series, where producer GxWay fully samples Earl Nightingale audio book “The Strangest Secret” from the 1950s. Hoping to take you on a journey of self discovery is the goal dFresh has set out in this 3-tier series. “Strangest Secret” and “Driver” were the two singles released prior, both gaining positive reviews and solid numbers at 96,000 plays cumulatively. Without further ado “Universal Laws: Chapter 1″ is here, on the birthday of the man who emancipated the slaves. In honor of that, emancipate your mind.

dFresh – The Strangest Secret (Video)

As January concludes, we remember the resolutions we’ve set and whether or not we’ve followed through with them (if you’re a gym goer, things should go back to normal within the next few weeks, if not already.) Why do some people succeed with setting goals while others fall back on their habits? Famed self development forefather Earl Nightingale would say that those who aren’t successful do not set goals and are reactive to those around them, forcing their dreams to take the back seat in favor of simple pleasures. Though these distractions may arise, don’t think that dFresh will succumb to them.

In practicing with the Nightingale ethos, “The Strangest Secret,” which is named after one of his seminal works, has the Delaware native going through the daily grind. Simple and to the point, the video throws away all of the glitz and glamour, allowing us to take in Fresh’s lyrics directly. dFresh’s upcoming “Universal Laws: Chapter 1″ doesn’t have a release date, but let’s hope it comes out soon so we’ve got something to bump while we stay on our path of success.

Phonetic ft. Madchild (Swollen Members) – Church In Session (Prod. By Alkota)

Producer Alkota teamed up with Swollen Members front man Madchild and Alaska’s insanely talented Phonetic to release the first single from the album ‘Crude Awakening’ a supplement to the 3rd issue of Alaska’s very own Crude Magazine. Think of Crude Magazine, as the VICE of the North. The 3rd issue ‘Arrogant Minds’ documents the grimy and often unknown Hip-Hop movement out of Alaska.

Alkota revisited his hometown roots and executive produced ‘Crude Awakening’, an obvious pun on the oil producing state, in order to showcase Alaskan artists that could hold their own against any industry artists …a truly rude awakening. The maxi-single ‘Church In Session’ (containing Dirty, Clean, Instrumental & Acapella) is Madchild & Phonetic exchanging introspective lyrics with a catchy hook over a classic Alkota beat.

M-Dot – Shine (feat. Method Man & Dominique Larue) (Prod. by Soulplusmind)

Nowadays it’s rare you see Hip-Hop pioneer, Wu-Tang legend Method Man appearing in features. Nevertheless, ten seconds in, that’s exactly what the uplifting and triumphant single “Shine” brings front and center. California based Film/TV score composer Soulplusmind lays the backdrop for Tical, alongside Dominique Larue (Columbus, OH) and M-Dot (of EMS) (Boston, MA) to articulate their lexicon, simultaneously showcasing an angst for hip hop that offers substance, with New York vocalist Katy Gunn providing the hook.

“Shine” is the lead single taken from underground staple and Beantown’s multi-award winning lyricist M-Dot’s two part debut album “Ego and the Enemy” (in stores 2015). The LP’s will feature production by Hi-Tek, Marley Marl, M-Phazes, Marco Polo, 7L and many more surprise industry respected beat-smiths (TBA).

Michael Cardigan x Daniel Joseph – What You Gonna Do (P*ssy) (Single)

In his latest single “What You Gonna Do (P*ssy),” Michael Cardigan 1/3 of the group St. Joe Louis decides to take an informal survey over Krill Krak production, along with Daniel Joseph. Decidedly the pareidolia settles in quickly on the hook and the seemingly happy record becomes oddly menacing sort of like a clown face. Sometimes asking the right question is more important than having the right answer.

Keith ‘WildChild’ Middleton – Transitions (Album)

A mainstay of the NY underground Hip Hop scene, rapping and producing for his group HYDRA and his crew The Plague, Keith “WildChild” Middleton is also a lead performer in the cast of Stomp. Keith has traveled the globe, has been featured in commercials for McDonalds, Volkswagon, Toyota, and Honda, has starred in the hit iMAX movie “Pulse: a Stomp Odyssey” and various films and television shows from Sesame Street (with Elmo) to Third Watch (alongside DMX) to The Oscars (twice!). To say he is a versatile performer is an understatement. A true renaissance man, WildChild also teaches body percussion globally and was a comedic choreography consultant for the animated movie “Robots.”

Having been a team player for years, in Stomp, HYDRA and The Plague, Keith is now branching out on his own, releasing his debut album “Transitions” on MCMI Records. An absolute labor of love, that came about after a near fatal car wreck made him realize that “Carpe Diem” would be his mantra, the spoken word/fusion album includes soul, funk, jazz, afro-beat, dance and Hip Hop, all music and tracks composed and produced by Keith himself, with guest appearances by HYDRA and a vast array of accomplished vocalists and musicians.

The title “Transitions” is self-explanatory, as Keith chronicles his transition to manhood, independence and self-fulfillment, including everything from relationships, to addiction, to honor, to the birth of his children. But its not all deep and serious, Keith has something for the playful, the dance crew, the MC, the poet, the lover and the fighter. Release of the physicals will be announced along with the Album Release Party, in the upcoming weeks. Checkout the first single/video off the album, “FeelsGood,” directed by Brandon Polanco (3 of A Kind Productions Here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D07I_lbFQkc
