"Underground Hip-Hop Blog" Exclusive Q&A Interview Session w/ Mighty Joseph have been given the chance this week to hook up with new hip hop duo “Mighty Joesph” which is complied of Vast Aire of Cannibal Ox and Karniege. The duo have just released their debut album entitled “Empire State” which you can purchase in stores and online now. They both sit down to chop it up about what they’ve experienced this far in their careers, their new project, as well as their up coming solo projects and what they have planned for the future.

Dub MD: Mighty Joseph, What’s good?
Karneige: Chillin, What up?

Vast Aire: You know us! Just on the grind!

Dub MD: For those who don’t know, could you just give a short review of what you’ve experienced in your rap career up until now?
Karneige: Getting the chance to travel meet of a lot of interesting people the ups & downs the game has to offer. Some sleepless nights trying to get the work done a lot of love & hate but, that goes with anything in life.

Vast Aire: Make real good music and people dig it, I can’t tell you how many times someone told me I changed their life with the music I make, that’s powerful! Oh yeah the underground hip hop is just as fucked up as the majors, in fact independent labels are the worst, because it’s less money to fuck people over.

Dub MD: Coming From New York, what do you think of the New York City music scene right now?
Karneige: I think it’s all over the place you have cats sounding like their from everywhere else but here, then theirs another side where heads are really repping New York to the up most.

Vast Aire: Pure as it was back in 1992, 93, 94 etc, now everybody just wants to be different instead of just being and everybody hate their job, so now they want to be a musician and that makes a lot bad music (Laughs)

Dub MD: What do you think of the commercialisation of Hip Hop right now, do you think its showing respect to its pioneers?
Karneige: I think it’s dope that hip hop has gotten more of the main stream light, but at the same time I don’t think they show enough respect to the pioneers that have pave the way for most of the artist that you see out to day.

Vast Aire: No, yes because there are a handful of artists out that are great and the rest just make good ring tone songs! I want people to rock my albums when I’m dead and gone, not just my ring tone!

Dub MD: Do you have a new album in the works? what’s it called? and what can heads out there expect from it?
Karneige: Yes I have a new album in the works I have a couple actually. The next one set for release this year is called “The Unveiling” we my self & Marq Spekt (Broady Champs) Together we are “Invizzibl Men” This album is nothing but dope beats & raw raps straight thru look out for that from “Backwoodstudios”. My solo is in the works as well it’s called “Kolorful Thawts” all I can say with that is a trip to great adventures.

Vast Aire: Solo project “Dueces Wild” this is my best solo work ever! Spring of 2008. Hit me up on myspace!

Dub MD: With this project, what artists & producers are you connecting with this time round?
Karneige: Well this project allowed us to work with heads like M.U.R.S, 4th-Pyramid, Access Immortal, J-Zone, Madlib, Sebb One, Melodious Monk, Double AB, Swave Seva.

Vast Aire: Project is sick, Mighty Joseph is crazy fresh! Order that now from our myspace pages.

Dub MD: You’ve got a new track out right now burning up the internet called “Legend”, produced by Madlib. How did you hook up with him?
Karneige: I’ll let Vast answer that!

Vast Aire: I have worked with Madlib for years, he did a few joints for me on “Look Mom No Hands” LP, in fact he did the title song! He’s a great dude and a real person and we make heat!

Dub MD: Can you tell us a little about how you came up with the name “Mighty Joseph” and how you both came to form the group?
Karneige: The name Mighty Joseph came about as a mix of “Mighty Joe Young” & “King King” but “Mighty Joseph” is much illa. lol.We formed the group from recording music as soloist letting each other hear what we’ve been working on, then touring together a lot of talk about music & life By that point we just decided to make it happpen & the rest is history.

Vast Aire: Pure as it was back in 1992, 93, 94 etc, now everybody just wants to be different instead of just being and everybody hate their job, so now they want to be a musician and that makes a lot bad music (Laughs)We loved the vibe that we have, we came up in High School and became real good mc’s. We put in that work and when we work together the songs were dope we had to do a project as soon as possible! So we did this LP in 2005 but it was mixed in October 2007.

The name is about that raw you get from us. The sound is raw, angry and large, like a crazy giant silverback we are the essence of a mad angry ape who knocks down buildings! (Laughs)

Dub MD: What do you think is your most defining and unique characteristic that sets you apart from every other group out there?
Karneige: I think what sets us apart from every other group is our chemistry, different styles plus unique voices. We a good ear for music & bottom line these kidz is nice!

Vast Aire: The music, the music, the music! I don’t care who you shot, I don’t care what gang your in, I don’t care what chain is on your neck. When you press play I will know it all in 10 seconds, dope music will always get it’s love. I hate to say this but dudes are not as creative as Mighty Jo, our name along with dead crews, we run this shit!

Dub MD: If you could describe yourself as a group in 4 words, What would they be?
Karneige: Like I said before, These Kidz Are Nice!

Vast Aire: Real, Creative, Powerful Music.

Dub MD: For your fans who haven’t seen you perform yet, are you planning on going on tour anytime soon?
Karneige: Yeah those plans are in the works right now as soon as we have it’s official dates we’re putting the word out.
