The 11th Annual Mixtape Awards Announces First Phase Of Voting

One of the most widely practiced American art forms has now reached the mainstream. Mixtapes DJs and artists spreading the gospel of hip-hop and truth of R&B for decades continue to be celebrated with an awards show of their own.  The 11th annual Mixtape Awards will be held February 21, 2008 at an undisclosed location in New York City.

The public is encouraged to visit to register and nominate their favorite Disc Jockeys and Mixtape artists now. Nominations are now underway for all award categories. Online nominations will close on January 1, 2008. Nomination is the first phase of the improved voting process. Voting is a four phase process which includes submission, nomination & revision, voting and results.

The Mixtape Awards was established in 1995 by Orpheous “Justo” Faison. The New York Times described Justo as the “Industry’s most energetic promoter of hip-hop mixtapes.” He recognized the importance of the mixtape culture thereby creating a fitting celebration through what was initially “Justo’s Mixtape Awards. Referred to as the, “Grammy awards of the streets”, the Mixtape Awards accomplishes its mission through programs and activities that engage the music industry and cultural community as well as the general public.
